The World of Walache

The Gods are Dead

The gods died and the world grew stagnant. The weave, the foundation of magic, still functions, at a rate the old mortals would dismiss. Cities which rise above the clouds, mountains that migrate as the seasons change, and effects that can be felt across the continents, have all but vanished. There are none left who strives for mortal-made wonders. The populace rather spend their energy in trade, wealth, and luxuries. There is no purpose in offerings to dead gods.

The world of Walache (wal-lah-chee) is a strange one. It is said the continents used to be split in two, a vast ocean between, in a time when deities still roamed. They say the gods were angry at the constant strife between the two masses. Others say it was the work of great mortals, tired of the bloodshed in their homes. Some think the purpose of the merge was to cover secrets under the water. Children enjoy the thought that a higher deity may have been bored. Few claim to know the truth, and the ones who do, are silent.

A good portion still believe the gods will return, most wish them to. There is a genuine sadness for the minority who still remember when they walked the land. They say the gods dying made the world lose it's purpose, it's faith. However those born into this world are ignorant of these past events. They live, fight, and die, for this place they call home.Â
